NYC BigApps 2013 Grand Prize

$35,000

Plus a demo slot at New York Tech Meetup, an interview slot at the Code for America Accelerator, and tickets to the Code for America Summit.

The Grand Prize winner will be selected from one of the following BigIssue winners below. The Grand Prize cash award is given in addition to cash prizes awarded to the respective BigIssue category winner, as described below.

Plus each winner is eligible for up to $20,000 in follow-on funding, in exchange for post-competition application improvements.

And membership in the NYC BigApps Alumni Network

And the First Prize winner will also be given a demo slot at New York Tech Meetup, the chance to pitch BlueRidge Foundation investors, and the chance to win free office space at Blue Ridge Foundation headquarters.

Jobs and Economic Mobility apps help NYC’s underserved residents find employment, develop workforce skills, and/or access vital worker support services, such as child care, healthcare, education, and affordable housing.

Additional Prizes

eBay

Each of the winning teams will receive three months of mentorship support from the engineers and product designers that make up eBay Inc.'s New York R&D office. In addition, they'll be able to participate in coaching sessions with some of our senior leaders around the world, access to exclusive events, and receive visibility through our blogs and social media properties.

One winning team will also be given a guaranteed spot to pitch their their new company in the final round of the Friends of eBay selection process for free office space and additional supports.

TechStars

TechStars will select at least two NYC BigApps 2013 competition winners to be TechStars Finalists and participate in the final round of its highly selective startup acceleration program.

TechStars

Blueprint Health will grant one interview slot for their very selective incubator program to one NYC BigApps winning team.

CodeforAmerica Accelerator

Code for America's accelerator program will grant an interview slot to the NYC BigApps Grand Prize Winner and award their team tickets to the Code for America Summit in California.

Best Wildcard App

$5,000

And membership in the BigApps Alumni Network

Wildcard apps are creative apps that improve the lives of New York City residents, visitors, and businesses, do not fit into the BigIssue categories to the left. Wildcard apps are not eligible for the Grand Prize award.

Judging Criteria

NYC BigApps Judges will use a combination of the following criteria when judging app submissions. Full details can be found in the Official NYC BigApps 2013 Rules.

1Potential positive impact on New York City residents, visitors, and businesses (especially as relevant to the above BigIssue categories)

2Implementation of the Idea (including user experience and design)

3Quality of the Idea (including creativity and originality)

4Potential commercial viability of application
